Muscles and Mayhem: Secret Theatre Returns to Hong Kong

The first rule of Secret Theatre Project is …

If you’re a fan of the iconic movie that gave us adrenaline-pumped men pounding the living daylights out of each other in a dark underground warehouse (and Brad Pitt’s abs) then you’ll be thrilled to hear that’s the premise of this year’s Secret Theatre Project which returns to the city from November 3 to December 10.

In case you don’t already know, the Secret Theatre Project is an immersive style theatrical production that creates an environment where audience members are encouraged to interact with the scenes as they unfold. Previous hit productions have included Edward Scissorhands in a disused factory in New York, Freakazoid at the Theatre Asylum in Hollywood, Reservoir Dogs in a warehouse in London, and SE7EN Deadly Sins in a haunted mansion on our very own Lamma island.

This year’s project, however, looks set to be sweatier and more pumped than ever before, as the crew presents us with an adaptation of the brutal Pitt movie – one of modern history’s most twisted tales of “fraternity, violence, and all-out psychological warfare”. Aptly named Project Mayhem – after the secret operation carried out to topple the corporate American system and blow up a s*** load of buildings – the experience takes place in a secret warehouse location where guests are engulfed as part of the set and story and encouraged to interact with roaming characters – look but don’t touch ladies!

The exact plot and location are kept strictly under wraps (well, not until you’ve bought your ticket anyway), so the fun part is trying to guess what the hell is going on as the drama unravels. And given that the creative team behind the project is world-famous for its unique brand of experiential theatre – selling out shows in London, Hong Kong, New York, and beyond – our guess is we’re in for one epic night. Of course, you can’t fight on an empty stomach, so there’s the option of tucking into a three-course Butchers Club dinner before the show – gotta build those abs somehow!

So, if you crave a little mayhem in your life, and want to try something completely unique, take a peek at the trailer below and book tickets to the ultimate sweat fest.

Early Bird tickets cost $850 or $1,600 for dinner and a show and are available to buy at Ticketflap.
